Prizes and Awards
A list of awards, which Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stein and the company Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stein & Partner GmbH received during the past years, is listed below.
At the German Construction Equipment Day that was held on 6 April 1986, special, trend-setting innovations, which had been developed in close cooperation with the German building industry and companies from the German construction as well as construction equipment and material industry, were prized for the first time. Here, the extraordinary engineering work in connection with the development of a "two-phase pipe jacking for non-accessible cross-sections" was awarded.
On the occasion of the NO-DIG International Conference held in Prague in September 2001 the international ISTT-jury awarded the engineering consultants Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stein & Partner for their multimedia technical information system "Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Drains and Sewers" with the NO-DIG Award 2000. The CD-system is based on the 3rd edition of the technical book of the same title by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stein. The CD however goes far beyond the printed version of the classic with its new form of knowledge transfer. Sound and videos as well as high-quality computer animations and simulations add to the conventional media ‘text’ and ‘image’.
The annually announced academic award for media didactics (MEDIDA-PRIX) is endowed with 100,000 € and considers itself a trigger for an innovative and sustainable implementation of digital media in academic teaching. 186 projects from Germany, Austria and Switzerland had applied for the acknowledged prize in 2004, only seven of them were picked by the jury to enter the final; among those UNITRACC, the information, learning and working platform for sewer and pipeline construction as well as related subjects of underground engineering. The statement on the participation in the final that was issued by the jury said that UNITRACC was a “highly professionally created project.” According to the jury, the platform realized a subject that is very difficult to teach by using conventional teaching methods. “The topic of underground/sewer rehabilitation is described very extensively and is presented in a very realistic way.”
EureleA is the annually announced European E-Learning Award, a competition which intends to work as a central trigger for the development of innovative qualification and training offers on the internet and intranet. Within the scope of eureleA, the model use of e-learning, i.e. the use of electronic learning and teaching materials for qualification and training purposes, was awarded; so-called best-practice models. The e-learning project "UNITRACC" won this prize in the category "Small Enterprises" in 2004 due to its sound contents on pipeline construction and maintenance as well as the opportunity of combining self-organized e-learning and knowledge transfer phases with learning in attended classes.
Within the scope of the 23rd International NO-DIG Conference held in Rotterdam on 19 September 2005, the NO-DIG Award was awarded by the ISTT, International Society for Trenchless Technology, for extraordinary projects from the field of sewer and pipeline construction. The jury evaluated a total of 21 nominations from 10 countries. The information, learning and working platform UNITRACC came out as the winner in the category “Scientific research and training”.
"Germany - Land of Ideas" is a joint and impartial image and location campaign, which was announced for the first time in 2006 by the German government and the German economy, represented by the German Association of the Germany Industry. Federal President Horst Köhler is the patron of the initiative, which has the aim of conveying a positive image of Germany nationally and abroad. One of the key projects within the scope of the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas” is the competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, which awards groundbreaking and innovative ideas. CargoCap, the 5th transport alternative to transport goods through underground pipelines in congested urban areas fast, reliably, on-time and in an economically efficient way, was chosen from 1200 applications due to its vision of improving transportation. The prize was awarded in December 2006.
"Germany - Land of Ideas" is a joint and impartial image and location campaign, which was announced for the second time in 2007 by the German government and the German economy, represented by the German Association of the Germany Industry. A high-ranking jury chose 365 landmarks from around 1500 applications in December 2006, among those also UNITRACC, the web-platform for underground infrastructures.
The Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany was awarded on 22 July 1998 in recognition of the achievements for people and state. It awarded achievements in the international recognition of German sewage technology, pipeline construction and maintenance, advancement of international scientific cooperation, integration of Eastern-German sewage technology with the innovation of old technology with 21st century ecological demands into trend-setting development.
In his book "100 products of the future: ground-breaking ideas that will change our lives" Prof. Theodor Hänsch, Noble Prize winner in physics, presents 100 products from all areas of life that will shape the 21st century, starting from the latest research results. A high-ranking jury consisting of 17 leading scientists of various research disciplines under the patronage of the editor Prof. Theodor W. Hänsch selected the “100 products”. With their choice the jury tried to reflect ideas from Germany that were born in the present, but will make our future nicer, simpler and better. The chapter “Traffic” also includes CargoCap, the 5th transport alternative to transport goods through underground pipelines in congested urban areas fast, reliably, on-time and economically efficiently. In his article the author estimates 2015 to be the year CargoCap will be put into reality.
